INTENTIONS
Black Moons are the second new moon in a calendar month and are the opposite of a Blue Moon, which is the second full moon in a calendar month.
Depending on your time zone, on July 31st or August 1st we have a Black Moon in this calendar month for 2019. Although some will see it on August 1st, which is technically a new calendar month, it’s still considered a Black Moon due to the proximity of the new month. Black Moons occur roughly every 32 months, and this one in Leo is also a Super Moon.
“Black Moon” is the name that is given to the second New Moon in a calendar month. Even though some countries will experience this New Moon in August, it is still considered a Black Moon due to its proximity to the start of the new month.
A Super Moon is one that is closer to earth in its orbit, and appears brighter, although in some areas may be hard to tell with the naked eye. The ocean tides are more affected by the moon’s vibrations, and we can feel it too.
This Black Super Moon comes after the Solar Eclipse in Cancer on July 2nd and the Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn on July 16th. July has been a very challenging and transformative month for many, and on top of that, Mercury was in retrograde from July 7th and ends today.
Needless to say, this new moon is the end of a time we won’t miss anytime soon. Between eclipse season and retrograde, a lot of members of the group have been on edge, unbalanced and can’t seem to find their ground. I’ll just say it: we’ve all been feeling like shit.
Eclipse season may have triggered changes we weren’t prepared for, shown us parts of our shadow we thought we had “dealt” with and worked through, and stirred up some emotional waves that were hard to navigate. Personally, I get my best work done during Mercury Retrograde, but this time had I so many challenges, it left me just pissed off and emotionally drained. I’m so glad to see it all end. I lost my joy and am reclaiming it today!
If you’ve felt the same, it’s time to regroup and start fresh. A better time awaits and now is the time to open to receive everything that we’ve been waiting for. I love new moons, and this one comes at a time when I need to focus on my intentions for August and make some moves to create a new and better reality.
With Mercury coming out of retro, new energy is coming in, but don’t rush. Take the time to figure out what intentions to set for the new month, and what you really want. When we set our intentions during the new moon, we draw things to us and after such a shit show, it’s important to look deep within and figure out what we want to create. Rushing into this after such an upheaval can leave us in a space where we “think” we want something, but when we get it, we realized we didn’t.
I talk about that in the live training in the group for waxing crescent. I thought I wanted something, so I set my intention but when it manifested, I was horrified. That’s the thing about creating a new reality and manifesting power; be careful how you present yourself. We attract what we are and not what we want.
The month of July has changed a lot of us, and as we transform and look for the joy we’ve lost, we should remember that we are at the start of a whole new era, so the intentions we set for August should reflect that.
New Moon in Leo also asks us to take control and make the right decisions for a new reality. It’s time to go within and find what is in our hearts, find what our true desires really are and listen to our gut. Tap into the courage of the Lion and make it happen. Push away all the anxiety and fear in our hearts and step into our own power.

Black Moon Affirmation – “I am empowered.”
The Strength Trump, Major Arcana 8, is all about being empowered. Planetary correspondence is Leo and the element of fire. Her number is XI or VIII, depending on the deck. I know that can confusing when you’re first learning Tarot, but the change came about to associate the card with astrology and the elements.
Traditionally, Strength is the 11th card and Justice the 8th, but the Rider-Waite-Smith deck switched their positions to make them fit the astrological correspondences which the 8th card was associated with Leo.
In the image above, the RWS deck is #8 and the Lumina is #11. The third card is from the Linestrider deck and it is #8.
In alchemy, the lion is a metaphor for an enlightened state of mind. We can spin straw into gold.
Keywords: fortitude, courage, love, patience, motivation, inner strength, success
This card signifies the need for patience as we deal with the end of such a tumultuous phase that may have overwhelmed us. We may be fighting our own shadow, and if past people or events showed up during retrograde, it’s time to tap into our confidence and power. We can work through anything with compassion and love.
To help find our courage and strength, get guidance on what we need to end and what to start, I’ve created a Black Moon Tarot Spread.
