Dear Baby Witch

I have decided/accepted/realized that I am/want to be/have always been a witch. So…Now what do I do?”

~ All Baby Witches

You have probably guessed that this is the number one question that I see and hear from baby witches. You’ve seen it a million times yourself if you hang out in any kind of metaphysical group online. I don’t mind the being asked the question, but it’s not entirely accurate. I mean…Let’s be honest here.

What this person is really asking is,

“HOW do I BE a witch?”

That’s a hell of question.

I could give you a list of books to read. (I will) I could share with you all the things that I do. (I will do that also) I could even give you list of web resources and witch schools if you want one. (But I’d caution you against it) I could give you all kinds of advice, resources and instructions.

But the real answer to “How do I be a witch?” is not one that you will likely be pleased with. I’m serious. You’re really not going to like it. Still want to hear it? OK.

Do it.

That’s it. That’s the answer.

You don’t need a list of steps, instructions or texts to read. You don’t need an initiation, a wand or even a spell. You just need to get up every day and do something. Anything – that sparks your joy and feeds your soul.

Light a candle while you drink your coffee. Or some incense. Like cards? Pull a card. Write an affirmation for the day and carry it with you. Sit outside for five minutes.

Hug a tree.

Feed the birds.

Literally anything that gets you in touch with whatever you call your source/deity/higher power.

Just DO ONE THING today.

Then tomorrow, do it again. Or something else. It doesn’t matter. Just reach out and touch the Divine.

Every day.

And while you practice doing that, getting to know the Divine that resides in YOU… Read some books. Join some groups. Visit some websites. Figure out what your affinities are and follow them. In your own way. In your own time. It’s life – not a race.

Interested in crystals? Read about them. Go look at some. Get some or find some. But you may change your mind and that’s perfectly fine! I like crystals. They’re beautiful. I can feel their vibrations. But you know what? (And I may be kicked out of the witch club for saying this but…)

They just don’t “do it for me.”

Not like they seem to for a lot of other people anyway. But that’s ok. You know what does do it for me? Plants.

I caught myself the other day communing with a pine tree in my front yard while stroking it’s branch like I was petting a dog. I’m sure the neighbors think I’m nuts but who cares!?

So how do you “Be” a witch?

You already ARE a witch.
Believe it.
Know it.
Do it.

Oh! There is one other thing! Always remember and never forget…

There is no “Right Way” to cast a circle.

Bright Blessings,
BethAnn
