How to Make Ritual Rosemary Oil

January 31, 2019 By Willow Leave a Comment

Today’s balsamic moon marks her going dark, resting after shining so bright and helping us plant need seeds and showing us the way to grow while nurturing us with peace and light.

La bella luna steps into her little black dress for the balsamic, or dark moon phase. The waning crescent signifies that it’s time for some self love and pampering.

Perfect time to use some rosemary oil for a little candle magick and bath in my opinion.

Rosemary is one of my very favorite herbs. Not only for chicken and culinary delights, but even Sally says to plant rosemary by you garden gate in Practical Magic and here is why:

Planet: Sun
Element: Fire
Powers: Protection, love, lust, mental powers, exorcism, purification, healing, sleep and youth

Not only is rosemary a substitute for frankincense, but if you wish to receive knowledge or the answer to a question, burn some on charcoal and smell the smoke.

During the dark moon, reflection and rest is vital to us and the rejuvenation of meditating on a candle while soaking in a bath just can’t be beat.

Below I have written directions on how to make rosemary oil for ritual use only – this isn’t for eating or putting on your mashed potatoes.

Then I’ve included a little candle magick for you filled with healing white light, sisters and brothers.  Now let’s get rid of the stress from the modern world, shall we?

How to Make Rosemary Ritual Oil

Making this ritual oil is ridiculously simple because we are just making an infusion. We are not making anything edible and if you have rosemary essential oil you can use instead of dried rosemary.

Always use dried rosemary and make sure it’s completely dry if you’ve grown it yourself. If there is any moisture in those needles, you risk it going rancid and nobody wants that.

I grow my own rosemary in an outdoor herb box and harvest and dry every year, but if you don’t, you can buy fresh rosemary at the store and dry it yourself or even use just dried rosemary from the spice isle. It’s all about the magick of YOUR intentions here, as with any magick.

Place rosemary in a jar. Cover with oil. You can use olive oil, coconut, or sweet almond, which is my preference. Put a lid on the jar and close tightly.

Now go find a sunny windowsill or shelf and leave it for 2 weeks. The heat from the sun will work it’s magic and after 2 weeks you just strain it and use it.

Easy peasy.

Remember when putting the jar together that the action alone is ritualistic and focusing your intention while doing so is very important. You can also write your intention down on a piece of paper and fold it up and put it under the jar. I like to write everything down and my husband finds little slips of paper everywhere.

One time, what he assumed was an empty box sat somewhere for a few weeks and he threw it in the trash. He never recovered from the wrath of his witch-wifey. Now he knows everything in our space is there for a reason.

Now on to a simple candle spell. Below, as always, is my spell checklist if you need it.

Checklist: I use this for all of my crafting and it’s just an example. I have provided a list of what you will need for tonight’s ritual below.

1. Candles
___________ How Many     ____________ Color

2. Crystals
___________ Color

3. Herbs

                    c. Deities
                    d. Elemental items (air, water, earth and fire)
                    e. Moon water
                     f. Fire bowl
                    g. Smudge stuff (palo santo or sage)
                    h. Mirror or crystal ball
                    i. Incense

                    q. Oil to dress candle

What you will need:

1. White candle
2. Rosemary oil to dress candle

…..and that’s it.

Ritual Bath Blend Recipe:

Epsom salt and a little of your rosemary oil. You can also add lavender of any form, I find the mixture of lavender and rosemary just heavenly.

When adding any oil to the bath, salt is needed to help mix because, ya know, oil and water here.

How to Make Rosemary Ritual Oil

Carve your happiness or healing sigil into a white candle. If you don’t have one, no worries. I will be writing about sigils soon, but for now you can check the Google by clicking here.

Dress your candle with your rosemary oil. Halfway up and halfway down,  envisioning a calming white light surrounding you (or whatever your intentions are today). When spreading the oil from the center up, you are sending your intentions upward and then downward. As above, so below.

The moon is in Sagittarius as I write this meaning there are good vibes all around. If you’ve been tiring yourself asking for a miracle, it’s a good time to just give thanks.

What I like to do is step into the bath and then light the candle and let it sit on the side of my bathtub, but if you’re just looking for a little healing and wont’ be bathing, just light the candle and think about the healing white light surrounding you and give thanks for your blessings. This ritual is about self love and relaxation. Time to clear your mind and just RELAX.

Fire of love, burn for me

Help me release what stresses me.

Time to breathe and time to heal,

Help me remember why I feel.

Releasing static as I stay,

in healing light on this day.

So mote it be.

Then I just relax and let my candle burn until it’s done. I relax and focus my energy on my gratitude practice and let my skin soften with the oil in the water. I use chimes here because I can’t stay in a bathtub for 6 hours here – but if you need to extinguish, do so.
