The feminine energy of snow, which is water, is highly connected with Goddess. You can use for cleansing, purification and divination. In this article, we use melted snow to create ice lanterns for a little candle magick. The rage or gentleness of the water can also be important, so if you’ve collected light snow that gently fell, it’s perfect for this relaxing ritual filled with peace and love. Save your blizzard snow to really raise some power or kick some serious ass.
As elements go, water is represented by the cup or the cauldron and in relation to the magick circle, if you cast facing the east, then water is directly behind you in the west. This, of course, is completely up to you. I know a witch who always faces North because she believes it to be the greatest direction of power. The craft is yours and yours alone, so there isn’t a wrong way here.
This spell was created with snow that fell on the day of the first quarter in January – meaning halfway between the new and full moon. This first quarter moon is great to attract the feeling of being healed. I’m not banishing pain, I’m setting my intention to heal myself from this grief.
A lot of witches aren’t taught about the power of the moon when in quarter, so if you recently completed a new moon ritual and aren’t getting results, this is a perfect time to try again. I used the last full moon ritual to release grief from the passing of one my best childhood friends and my father, and on this quarter I was feeling like I needed to cleanse those feelings of anger associated so this spell helped me make through last week when that anger stage was just kicking my ass.
The creation of the ice candle holders was part of the ritual for me. As I focused my intention on healing energy washing over me, I visualized the candles burning and it embracing me.
Spells require preparation and focus and understanding what you’re working with is one of the most important things in magick and can absolutely make or break your crafting results. The preparation as well as the spell is just a way to focus your energy and raise your vibration. You’re concentrating on what you want and raising your energy to get it. I like to sit in quiet meditation after my incantations and really focus my raised energy. I focused on the feeling of healing.
Below you’ll find both an incantation and a mantra to complete this work.
It’s no secret that magick works, but if you’re struggling, it’s important to understand that it’s all about you and the energy you put into it. You don’t have to be a Wiccan and part of the religion, all Wiccans are witches but not all witches are Wiccan. You can be an energy witch, a hedge witch, white witch, gray witch, it’s really up to you, but whatever you do, take your power seriously and know that rituals and spells are just a concentration of YOUR energy. I’m not really one for labels and just want to be magick.
To make my candle holders, I simple filled a large coffee mug with melted snow, inserted a smaller one in the center and weighed it down with sand – but not too much because you need a bottom and want some distance there. You don’t want the inside cup to rest on the outside cup or you won’t have a bottom at all.
I slipped some glitter given to me through the healing power of the love of a child between the two mugs on one of them, because the Goddess and I both love us some bling. The other two were filled with 3 herbs that resonated with me and my purpose:
- Rosemary: to heal love and purify
- Cinnamon: to aid in healing
- Orange: for love – the love I am not letting go
All 3 of my herbs are masculine, and very fitting because I’ve lost 2 men that I grieve for and this spell is directed for a few reasons and intentions. As the moon was in Aries, and water is associated with the west, it was a great time to heal emotions. My snow water was collected from a gentle falling snow that blanketed my world in beauty and peace.
What you will need:
1. Red candles: for inner strength and courage
2. Ice candle holder/lanterns made with intention and emotion
3. Cleansing herbs (I used Palo Santo)
4. Clear bowl
5. Smokey Quartz
6. Selenite (I have a tower)
7. Incantation
8. Mantra
9. Fire proof bowl
Incantation:
I have met you beyond the moon and saw you in the other realm in the arms of the goddess. I will no longer be sad because you are finally free from the pain that tethered you to this reality. Go home and look down upon me, guiding me away from this grief I’m holding on to as it’s time to release it and let go. On this day, I chose to let go of my grief and allow myself to begin to heal. The time has come to start moving forward, knowing that you are here with me giving me the strength and courage I need to live without you. I release my anger and fill my heart with the healing emotion of love.
Mantra:
I receive comfort to ease my grief from my higher self.
Cast your circle clockwise. After your space is set up and you are inside and surrounded with white light, cast your formation. I chose to use a circle for this because of the mantra I will use to meditate after, I want grief to flow out of me and positive energy back into me. To seal the formation, simply recite “This circle is cast with energy that is wise, bring forth the power and let it rise.” You can actually say anything you want here, so if you want to edit it, you’re just asking that the energy rise and your power comes up for the ritual.
1. Cleanse your candle holder/ice lantern with incense
2. Set into a glass bowl, because it will be melting as it burns unless you do this outside. I did mine outside so it stayed frozen.
3. Write down the incantation:
I have met you beyond the moon and saw you in the other realm in the arms of the goddess. I will no longer be sad because you are finally free from the pain that tethered you to this reality. Go home and look down upon me, guiding me away from this grief I’m holding on to as it’s time to release it and let it go. On this day, I chose to let go of my grief and anger and allow myself to begin to heal. The time has come to start moving forward, knowing that you are here with me giving me the strength and courage I need to live without you. I release my grief and fill my heart with the healing emotion of love.
4. Pass the paper through your smoke
5. Light a red tea light and place into the ice holder
6. Say the incantation and light with the fire from the candle. Let burn in the fire proof bowl.
7. Take your smokey quartz or selenite into your receiving hand and start your meditation with the mantra:
I receive comfort to ease my grief from my higher self.
8. Let the candle and paper burn while in quiet meditation. When finished, recite your incantation once more and end it with “So it is” or anything that you personally use to make that statement.
Blessed be, brothers and sisters. I send you love and healing always,
Willow
