When we need protection, we go to the top, and in the Kabbalah and even in the history of the Golden Dawn, the LBRP can be found.
Are angels real? In my experience, they sure are. I’ve witnessed this personally on three different occasions.
First, the day I was stabbed. A blue light surrounded me as I was curled up into a little ball like a baby bird. My friend heard the attack and said I sounded like a little bird. All of a sudden, a blue brilliant light surrounded me and a neighbor came running out with a baseball bat.
The second occasion was when my heart stopped in an ambulance years later. I was hugged and told I need to go back because I had work to do. I didn’t want to. I really, really did not want to. I just wanted to die.
The third occasion was a suicide attempt. Michael himself showed up and told me to be strong and that he was with me. That flaming sword was the most terrifying, beautiful and loving thing I’ve ever seen. All of a sudden, I was completely dead sober and crying.
This year I saw a medium who told me I had another angel. One higher than Michael and much bigger.
Whether it’s ancestors, spirits, daimons, angels or guides, the more we commune, the stronger our connection. The LBRP is not only communion, but faith in magick. The ritual uses the Hebrew names of angels and words. The Greek word “angelos” just means “messenger” and at some level, we have belief in unseen power, or why would be practicing the occult?
Some folks use the LBRP before they even cast a circle to clear all negativity, and to call upon angels and elements as protection. Some do this to connect to the Divine and some for protection. I’ve done all three but protection work using this is powerful. Nothing gets past them.
NOTHING.
I have a pentagram that my own house sits in the middle of.

The Lesser Banishing Ritual of The Pentagram
Ground and center yourself. Meditate on the symbol of the pentagram, an ancient symbol of protection. Sit with it in your witch eye, your mind’s eye or your third eye – all the same. The 5 points of the pentagram represent matter within the circle of life: earth, air, fire, water and spirit.
• Start with your feet firm on the ground facing east. Look up and enter a state of pure reverence or deep respect. Say:
With love, honor, grace and humility, I call upon Thee.
Raise the first two fingers on your right hand and say:
Ah-teh
Feel the power as you say:
I call forth.
• Look down. Point your two fingers toward the ground and say:
Mal-Kuth
Feel the power as you say:
I manifest.
• Touch your two fingers to your left shoulder and say:
Ve-Ge-Vu-Rah.
• Touch your fingers to your right shoulder and say:
Ve-Ge-Du-Lah.
• Make two fists, cross your arms in front of your chest and say:
Lih-oh-lahmn-ameen.
• Use the index and middle finger on your right hand to trace a banishing pentagram in the air. Begin tracing the star by drawing upwards from the left point and enclosing the star in a circle.
• Once you’ve drawn the banishing pentagram in the air, step forward and thrust your hands into the center of it and say:
Yod-hay-vow-hay.
• Draw a line in the air with your two fingers and turn to the south. Make another banishing pentagram. Thrust your hands through the center of it and say:
Ah-don-nai.
• Draw a line in the air with your two fingers as you turn to the west. Make another banishing pentagram, thrust your hands through the center of it and say:
Eh-hay-yay.
• Draw a line in the air with your two fingers as you turn to the north. Make another banishing pentagram, thrust your hands through the center of it and say:
Aug-lah.
• Draw a final line in the air with your two fingers as you turn back to the east.
• Facing east, stand with your feet apart, arms outstretched (think of the Vitruvian man here) and you are now a 5-pointed star. Say:
Before me Raphael. [Rah-fay-el]
• Visualize the archangel Raphael in yellow. Feel the power of the element of air. Say:
Behind me Gabriel .[Gahb-ray-el]
• Visualize Gabriel in blue and feel the power of the element of water. Say:
At my right hand Michael. [Meek-ay-ael]
• Visualize Michael in red. Feel the power of the element of fire. Say:
At my left hand Auriel. [Ohr-ree-el]
• Visualize Auriel in brown and feel the power of the element of earth. Say:
For about me flame the pentagrams and within me shines the six-rayed star!
• Visualize yourself surrounded by blue flaming pentagrams and a six-rayed star burning inside of you.
• HOLD THIS. Feel protected. SEE it. Stand in that power with gratitude of said protection. HOLD IT and stay there for however long you are called to.
I lost an hour once.
To close the ritual, we follow it as we started.
• Raise your first two fingers on your right hand, look to the sky and say:
Ah-teh.
• Look down, point your two fingers to the ground and say:
Mal-Kuth.
• Touch your two fingers to your left shoulder and say:
Ve-Ge-Vu-Rah.
• Touch your two fingers to your right shoulder and say:
Ve-Ge-Du-Lah.
• Make two fists, cross your arms in front of your chest and say:
Lih-oh-lahm-ameen.
I always end in deep prayer of thanks to the angels, elements, guides and spirits for their blessings and protection. Here is a video that explains this really well and you can hear how to pronounce:
Yes, there are a few differences, but there always are and will always be This right here? Kate Bush gets it
This is from 1993 and helped me learn this – no lie. This is just a demonstration of how she choose to switch it and how others do too.
Is that wrong?
I don’t think so at all.
We call them all. I call Raphael before me because that’s just the way I was taught.
Gabriel before me
Raphael behind me
Michael to my right
Uriel on my left side
In the circle of fire
Hi!
This is a bit of an old post but Im studying magic and Im curious.
Israel Regardie says that the specific Hebrew Names of the Deity are just traditional, and what I want to do is to connect to the Greek Deities, very specifically Hermes, Apollo, Aphrodite, and Athena. Do you know of any way of modifying the LBRP to connect with greek deities? Or maybe about rituales akin to it?
If you have any book recommendations, Im all in for it.
Thanks.
The LBRP is from the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and uses names of power, it’s the cardinal directions and the name of YHVH and invokes the archangels. I agree with traditional (because these names are pantheon specific for the same energy currents or archetypes of the Divine Feminine and Masculine) this is a high magic ritual AND there IS RITUS OLYMPICUS PENTAGRAMMOU MINOR AD EXPELLENDUM – which is the Olympic LBRP essentially – and you can read it for free at https://www.sacred-texts.com/bos/bos546.htm and the Olympic Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram info can be found here: http://wisdomofhypatia.com/OM/BA/OBRP/OLBRPnotes.html – it is based on the Ancient Greek Esoteric Doctrine of the Elements.

As with any deity research, I always recommend starting with myths and lore. It’s not only interesting to read how they were created and what they did, but it really gives you good info on what they stand for, what they like and how they live so that making a connection and creating offerings and prayers is much easier.
