Road Opener Candle Spell

September 16, 2019 By Willow 7 Comments

ROAD OPENER

open·er \ ˈōp-nər \
To unblock

or remove obstacles and
OPEN THE ROAD

* To dress this candle, I’m using Road Opener Oil – the blend can be found in this post: https://www.whitewitchgrimoire.com/road-opener-oil/

For the full moon tonight, I’m doing a Road Opener Candle Spell. The full moon is a time of release, and releasing your blocks is perfect for The Harvest Moon on this Friday the 13th.

This oil is a recipe blend using abre camino – the secret ingredient to this magic. I’m also using abre camino chips in my spell below. You can find it on Amazon.

Road Opener is a type of hoodoo magic and root work that helps to remove obstacles, anything that blocks you.I have also included a seal for you to carve into your candle. As I am using a purple beeswax one, I will just draw it on the back of my letter of intention. No wrong way here.To open all roads to success and clear the blocks, you will need (and remember, you don’t NEED any of this, just your intention):

  1. Candle colors: white, orange, yellow, red, purple or green
  2. Candle cleansing: sugar water with a few drops of coconut oil
  3. Oil: Road Opener, Mercury, sandalwood, coconut, rue, honeysuckle, frankincense. You can also make a blend of cinnamon and Bergamot to use
  4. Candle Feeding: iron filings, honey, cinnamon powder, shredded coconut
  5. Letter of intention
  6. Bowl
  7. Dirt from crossroads – keep all 4 corners separate and make them per direction
  8. Honey
  9. Shredded coconut
  10. Abre camino chips
  11. Rice
  12. Cinnamon
  13. Sweet white wine (leave some for yo’self 😉)

To cast:Cast your circle and raise your power (your magic here) and light the incense.Focus and write your letter of intention. When finished, pass your letter through the incense smoke. Place your letter in your bowl and put your candle on top of it.Open the bag of dirt from the east and pour over your letter while saying this incantation:

Spirits of the east, open the doors to the feast

Open the bag of dirt from the south and pour over your letter while saying:

Door of the south, there will be no doubt

Open the bag of dirt from the west and pour over your letter while saying:

Passage to the west will see to it that there is no contest

Finish with the dirt from the north while saying

Guardian of the north will see that I have my way

Now pour on the honey, because all gods who rule over communication are drawn to sweet offerings. Add the shredded coconut, rice, abre camino and cinnamon. Then to intoxicate life add some sweet white wine to the bowl. This is to make the 4 guardians of the world happy so that they will open doors for you so that good shit can materialize in your life. All your paths will be open. Light the candle and smile, holding that feeling of already walking down your open road and slide into a space of gratitude. It’s the emotion of that feeling that sets this on fire.End your ritual per your tradition. This is a very old spell, adapted from a very famous witch from New York. This works. It’s all in your intent, my moon babies.

Blessed Be.

The only ingredient I would not recommend substituting is the abre camino. It’s the traditional ingredient for this type of work.

I have something better than that – I am putting together an herbal encyclopedia here on this site. I am listing the herbs as well as what they are used for – with both polarities 😉 I will launch in spring 2023.

I feel like this hoodoo spell has been remixed with folk magic. please try to stay true to the origins of hoodoo. There should at least be some type of psalm in this root working…do not mislead people…

Road Opening spells and the term “Road Opener” originally come from the tradition of Santería, and have been made popular within the American Hoodoo tradition. The name originates from the herb thoroughwort, known by the folk name, “Abre Camino,” which translates in English to “Road Opener.” Many traditions, including working with Hekate who is the keeper of the keys and watcher of the crossroads. The original working was adapted, as stated, by a witch from New York who practices Santeria. I personally adapt this in a different way for personal work with Hekate. You can learn more about her and her crossroads here: https://www.patheos.com/blogs/keepingherkeys/2020/05/hekates-crossroads/
